Impaction in boars!!

                                        Impaction in boars!!!!
All boy guinea pigs over the age of 2yrs some times younger need to have there anal sack emptied some need it done daily and others weekly.
If left, then the guinea pig will become very impacted with shavings, hair, and hay that it will cause many problems including pain, infection, and in some cases even death.
It only takes 2 minutes to do which you can do your self.
Signs of impaction can be.....
Lack of appetite.
 Very hard poo(pellets)or constipation.
Not wanting to move around much.
Lethargic.
Swelling, or a hard lump, can be felt around the outside of the anus.
.Boy guinea pigs known has boars have glands in there bum when making there mark they open there bottom and wipe it along the floor because of this the guinea pig can trap many things into there bum IE,shavings, hay, hair which they cant get out on there own this is were you come in.
You need to hold the guinea against your chest its best if someone helps you.
You need to open the anus with your index and middle finger open the anus and push at the same time and the sack will be revealed, this doesn't smell very nice which is normal,,if anything can be seen like as stated in the above try to open and push/roll the skin around the matter and this should just fall out some times you will need to pull it out if it is stuck(don't pull with great force has damage and pain will occur)if the matter is very stuck then a small amount of olive oil can be used to lubricate the matter and gently ease the matter out.In normal looking anal sacks there will be cream coloured liquid this is normal it also smells very bad this again is normal.
In some cases of server impaction,, infection can occur ,in this case a trip to the vets is needed ASAP...
See the link above for more information on impaction...
